Malvern, mid-1980s
Why we were in Malvern
I do not recall
The prices were beyond us
A house to rent?
A wedding dress?
We were in love, certainly
That I do recall
Early days
Hand in hand
Spring, naturally
She stepped from a store
A boutique maybe
She wore a smile that shone
And a blue summer dress
That belonged to her and her alone
A dress that said, Yes
I am young, Yes
I am alive, Yes
The day is bright
How many steps did we witness
Before she was beyond us
Before she disappeared
Into the Saturday afternoon?
Did we look back?
Did we turn around
Our hands parting
As we wondered
Where she had gone
Where she had come from?
It was Spring, certainly
We were in love, naturally
